Battery recycling

The UK Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations were introduced in May 2009 with the aim of reducing the amount of used batteries ending up in landfill. Lenovo is working with Valpak Limited to collect and recycle batteries. Owners or last users of batteries should contact their local municipality or visit the Valpak website at www.valpak.co.uk/ to identify collection points or obtain additional recycling information.

As a producer of industrial batteries under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, Lenovo Global Technology produces lead acid batteries. Lenovo is obliged in any calendar year we place new industrial batteries on the market to take back, free of charge, waste industrial batteries supplied to an end user for treatment and recycling. If any of our customers, or in certain cases other end users, require us to take back Industrial batteries, please contact us at environment@lenovo.com. We will agree the necessary arrangements for the return, proper treatment and recycling of the waste industrial batteries.

Packaging Recycling

Lenovo has joined the Valpak consortium for the collection and recycling or product packaging waste. Owners and last users of product packaging should contact their local municipality or visit the Valpak Web site to identify collection points or obtain additional recycling information.

WEEE User Information

Users of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) with the WEEE marking per Annex IV of the WEEE Directive must not dispose of end of life EEE as unsorted municipal waste, but use the collection framework available to them for the return, recycle, recovery of WEEE and minimize any potential effects of EEE on the environment and human health due to the presence of hazardous substances.

WEEE From Private Households (Consumers)

Lenovo has joined the Valpak WEEE Compliance collective for handling WEEE from consumers. Consumers should contact their local municipality to identify collection points or go to the Valpak website at www.valpak.co.uk for additional information.

WEEE From Other Than Private Households (Business)

If you are a Lenovo Enterprise Customer, you can profit from the residual value of the equipment you wish to dispose by using Lenovo’s Asset Recovery Services (ARS). Please see below for more information about this service for business customers.

For free WEEE recycling of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) put on the market after August 13, 2005 and EEE put on the market before August 13, 2005 that is part of a 1:1 replacement sale with Lenovo, businesses should complete and submit the form found at the following EARN website http://www.earn-service.com/lenovo/form_e.html to make arrangements for collection and treatment.

For WEEE put on the market before August 13, 2006 that is not part of a 1:1 replacement sale, businesses should consider Lenovo’s Asset Recovery Solutions offering.

Lenovo Asset Recovery Services

Lenovo offers Asset Recovery Services (ARS) to business customers to help manage their end-of-life technology equipment by providing PC take-back, data destruction, refurbishment and recycling. Lenovo also offers additional services including inventory, value assessment, on-site de-installation and data encryption. This service gives customers an end-to-end solution from Lenovo from the point of computer purchase to take-back and disposal.

Lenovo's expertise in managing the end-of-life computers can help customers eliminate the time and expense of managing the disposal of surplus or replaced equipment themselves. Additionally, upon request, Lenovo can facilitate donation of the old computers or can help customers receive cash back for them.
