Regulatory Compliance

Battery Information

Many Lenovo products and accessories contain lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, which are classified as hazardous by various global transportation agencies. These include the U.S. Department of Transportation, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Maritime Organization (IMO). As such, lithium batteries are subject to numerous transportation regulations.

Reese’s Law Compliance

Reese’s Law updated US federal safety requirements for button cell or coin batteries. Lenovo is in compliance to Reese’s Law, for consumer products with coin batteries being sold in the US. General Certificates of Compliance (GCC) and/or Children’s Product Certificates (CPC) can be provided upon request. Please reach out to compliance@lenovo.com for assistance. Please include the product marketing name and machine type (MT) or part number in your inquiry.

Lenovo Battery Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

The Lenovo Battery Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a document that affirms Lenovo’s conformance to U.S. and worldwide transportation requirements. It lists the applicable preconditions, testing, and regulations assessed for compliance.

The Lenovo DoC confirms that our batteries meet various international transportation requirements.

Click here to read the Lenovo Battery DoC.

Lenovo Battery Safety Data Sheets and UN38.3 Test Summaries

When shipping Lenovo or Motorola products overseas that contain a rechargeable battery, you may need to provide a Safety Data Sheet (formerly MSDS) or UN38.3 Test Summary. These confirm that the battery meets stringent international safety criteria.

To locate these documents, you will need to know the battery’s part number (or ASM number) for your machine and then visit the Lenovo Battery SDS Information page.

If you have the computer model/serial number, then please Click here for instructions to obtain battery part number.

If you do not have the computer model/serial number but you have the computer part number, please refer to this file for instructions to obtain the Battery Part number and then visit the Battery SDS Information web page.

If you still cannot find your battery’s part number (or ASM number) or have problems with the SDS or UN38.3 Test Summary Files, please e-mail msds@lenovo.com and include your computer model/serial number so we can assist you.
