Recycling Programs - Ireland
WEEE User Information
In Ireland, the Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE-Directive) has been implemented at the national level by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2014 (S.I. No. 149/2014), last amended by S. I. No. 233/2019.
Lenovo marks all products placed on the market after 13 August 2005, with the crossed-out wheelie bin (separate collection symbol):
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbolises that waste cannot be disposed of with unsorted household waste but must be collected separately from other types of waste to ensure environmentally sound treatment and recycling.
Before you dispose of your end-of-life equipment, please:
- Delete personal data from the electrical or electronic equipment
- Remove used batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed in the electrical or electronic device, as well as lamps that can be removed from the WEEE without damaging it, before handing it in at a collection point.
Substances contained in waste electric and electronic equipment can harm the health of the environment, humans, and animals if handled incorrectly.
If possible, please avoid creating waste from electric and electronic equipment (e.g. by giving preference to devices with a longer life). Please consider ways to reuse electric or electronical equipment instead of disposing of it; for example, by recycling or repairing it.

Battery Recycling
The European requirements regarding batteries and waste batteries according to Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and Directive 2006/66/EC are implemented into national laws by the EU (Batteries and Accumulators) Regulations 2014 (S.I. No. 283/2014), last amended by S.I. No. 347/2015.
Batteries and accumulators are marked with the crossed-out wheelie bin (symbol of separate collection). This means that batteries and accumulators cannot be disposed of with normal household waste and must be collected separately.
Batteries containing high concentrations of the following hazardous substances are additionally labelled with the symbols for Cd (cadmium), Hg (mercury) or Pb (lead).
If handled incorrectly, substances contained in batteries can not only harm the environment, but also the health of humans and animals. Separate collection ensures that used batteries and accumulators are recycled in a way that protects the environment and conserves resources.
Please avoid the generation of waste from old batteries as far as possible (e.g. by favoring batteries with a longer service life or rechargeable batteries).
Lenovo has joined the WEEE Ireland compliance scheme for collecting and recycling end-of-life batteries and is registered at the Producer Register Limited under the following registration numbers for batteries:
- Lenovo Ireland Ltd: 2012WB
- Lenovo Global Technology Ireland Ltd: 2184WB
Waste batteries including rechargeable batteries are taken back free of charge. You are not obliged to make any purchase when returning old batteries. Each local authority must also accept household WEEE and small batteries free of charge at its recycling facilities.
