ThinkPad Series Comparison
Everyone knows about ThinkPad, the best-selling laptop brand in history. But do you know the difference between a ThinkPad T Series model and a ThinkPad P Series one? Or that the ultraportable ThinkPad X Series includes a ground-breaking X1 sub-series of powerful, lightweight systems that can do it all? What about the ThinkBook? Or our lesser known E and L Series?
If you want to know more about the ThinkPad laptop line-up, you've come to the right place. So keep reading. There's so much that's good about each series, we could go on forever -- but we'll keep it short. Enjoy!
ThinkPad T Series
ThinkPad T Series is the flagship series of the ThinkPad line, with a combination of productivity and security features that make T Series laptops the favorite of business and professional users worldwide. Whether you're buying one laptop for yourself, 2-3 of them for your small business, or a fleet of portable systems for enterprise use, ThinkPad T Series is the high-performance leader.
T Series laptops are powerful enough to replace any desktop PC, with some of the fastest Intel and AMD processors on the market. Yet they are still highly portable -- some T Series models weigh less than 3 lbs. and offer up to 20 hours of unplugged work time. And like other advanced ThinkPad models, T Series laptops offer the discrete Trusted Platform Module (dTPM) for secure storage of encryption keys and digital certificates, as well as remote IT management capabilities (from both Intel and AMD).
ThinkPad X Series
ThinkPad X Series laptops offer full PC power and functionality but are probably best known for their small, ultraportable frame sizes that fit into any backpack or briefcase. These top quality Lenovo laptops are prized by business "road warriors" and others who value easy-to-carry systems and extra-long battery life -- but who refuse to compromise in terms of performance and reliability.
The X Series includes the popular ThinkPad X1 line that's even thinner and faster-charging than other X Series models. ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops weigh as little as 2.5 lbs. and are built for superior portability, with durable but lightweight construction, integrated graphics and multiple low-power processor options to extend unplugged time. ThinkPad X1 Extreme laptops are slightly heavier (about 4 lbs.) and boast similar thinness, but you can configure them with higher-resolution displays, faster processors, and dedicated graphics. The X Series even has 2-in-1 models: The ThinkPad X1 Yoga works as either a laptop or a tablet.
ThinkPad P Series
When the workload is heavy and mission-critical, you need a workstation with processing and graphics power to spare. ThinkPad P Series is Lenovo's top-selling mobile workstation brand -- portable enough to take with you, but with advanced technology to tackle the most intense computing tasks. In fact, P Series workstation laptops are ISV-certified to work with today's best engineering, design, and video editing software.
P Series laptops come equipped with huge storage drives, loads of RAM, display options up to UHD/4K, and ports galore (HDMI, USB 3.1, Thunderbolt™ 3, and so on, depending on the model). You can choose from today's fastest graphics cards and CPUs, including some with advanced ECC memory that sharply limits system crashes. And like other business-focused ThinkPad laptops, P Series workstations protect your data with numerous advanced security features.
ThinkPad Yoga Series
ThinkPad Yoga Series 2-in-1s combine the renowned power and reliability of ThinkPad laptops with the amazing versatility our Lenovo Yoga line and its unique 360-degree hinge. A ThinkPad Yoga system works as a traditional laptop at home and in business meetings, or you can flip the screen around to use it as a tablet for casual web surfing, on-the-go note-taking, and more.
Both the ultraportable ThinkPad X Series and the more economical, eco-friendly ThinkPad L Series offer models with the Yoga 2-in-1 configuration. Plus, the name 2-in-1 might better be called 4-in-1, since the Yoga hinge allows the device to be used in four different ways. Not only is there laptop and tablet mode, but you can use it in Stand and Tent modes, too.
Additional ThinkPad laptop series
Lenovo sells millions of T Series, X Series, and P Series laptops each year. But these highly popular systems aren't the end of it. Depending on what you need in a laptop, these additional ThinkPad series could be the perfect choice:
- ThinkPad L Series laptops are built for business, but with an added focus on economy and value. They're also among Lenovo's "greenest" laptops to date, designed for low energy consumption and built with more post-recycled material than earlier systems.
- ThinkPad E Series laptops are aimed at small business users who need great productivity features at an affordable price. Yet they're stylish -- breaking the mold for economy-focused laptops and making business "personal" again.
- ThinkBook laptops take the ThinkPad brand in a new direction. ThinkBooks are decidedly different -- both in the way they look (gray vs. black) and in their design, which aims to merge the best business and consumer features in one affordable package.
As you can see, there's a lot more to ThinkPad laptops than our popular T Series and X Series systems. Whether it's a P Series workstation, a Yoga 2-in-1, or one of our value-focused L Series models, there's a ThinkPad laptop for everyone.
