Different from laptop or netbook computers, tablets don't have physical keyboards, but instead feature a touchscreen interface that engages the user even more. Another advantage of tablets over their PC counterparts is that the devices don't require constant start-ups, since the user only needs to hit the power button to access information on the device. Hospitals and businesses are already experiencing the benefits of tablets in the workplace, as well as employees using the devices to access work when they aren't in the office. The U.S. Marine Corps plans to issue 15,000 tablets during the next five years, according to a report by InformationWeek, an online news and review publication. The Marine Corps also plans to distribute more than 400,000 PCs as well, at a cost of $880 million. The digital world is also breaking new ground for devices, and companies in several industries continue to adapt to the latest technology to make their operations easier and more convenient. Although new, tablets remain one of the most influential devices out there. |
