According to reports from UK news provider the Telegraph and others, Deloitte predicts that second tablets -- those purchased by people who already own tablet computers -- will generate more than $1.9 billion in revenue this year. "The tablet explosion has shown little sign of slowing down since hitting the market in 2010 and is set to take the mantle of the most rapid multiple market penetration in history," says Jolyon Barker of Deloitte's Technology, Media and Telecommunications department, according to the Telegraph. "It is worth remembering that it took several decades after introduction for more than 5 percent of households to have more than one car, phone, radio or TV," he adds. Research firm Gartner predicts that more than 100 million tablets will be sold in 2012. Whether to first-time users or those coming back for more, signs suggest that the tablet is here to stay. |
