Laptop owners get movie, TV streaming service on American Airlines flights

Movie lovers, frequent fliers and laptop owners will all be glad to hear about American Airlines' new in-flight movie and TV streaming service.

The company will soon offer a wireless movie and TV streaming service on its entire fleet of Boeing 767-200 aircraft, through a partnership with in-flight connectivity provider Gogo. Even better, the new service provides access to streamed media for 72 hours after it is requested, meaning those with long layovers will have access to the full library the airline offers.

Through Gogo, American Airlines will offer 100 movies and TV shows each. Movies will be available for $3.99, while TV shows will cost just $0.99.

This likely comes as good news to frequent travelers, as on-demand media has long been a go-to for those with time to kill at airports.

Some may think the new program is outdated because it is limited to laptop computers, which many in the industry have predicted will fall out of relevance in the face of rising interest in tablet computers. However, analysts with market research firm IDC and the Information Technology Industry Council recently told Tech News World that most computer users will purchase a tablet to accompany their laptop and desktop PCs, rather than replace them.
