IT hiring trends reflect growth of mobile technology

The recent rise of mobile technology, including smartphones and tablet computers, is having an apparent impact on the corporate job market, as more companies are looking to hire professionals with experience in these areas.

According to a September 2011 study from technology news provider Computerworld, nearly 29 percent of polled information technology executives say they plan to add staff by the summer of 2012. Of those planning to hire, 61 percent say they are seeking professionals with programming and application development skills.

The news provider notes that this is indicative of enterprise trends toward mobile devices. Companies are looking to leverage the power of smartphones and media tablets to improve not only the customer's experience, but the employee's experience as well.

By developing mobile apps, businesses can enable their employees to connect to corporate programs in a secure manner from virtually anywhere. As a result, employees may become more productive and can enjoy the added flexibility that comes from mobile technology.

This shift toward enterprise mobility is likely to accelerate moving forward, as a separate study from Juniper Research estimates that nearly one-fifth of the 253 million tablets sold in 2016 will be used for work-related tasks.
